Girls Names – THE NEW LIFE
Girls Names can be excused
the delayed guitar effects, the 80’s atmosphere, and the Ian Curtis means profundity
lyrics because of what they do with it all.
The songs on THE NEW LIFE seldom get caught up in their own weight
instead they glide along like a lighter version of The Editors or bass and
synths undulate slowly like outtakes from CLOSER. An enjoyable record, sounds more like a young
hungry New Order than New Order does these days.
Unknown Mortal Orchestra - II
The songs on Unknown Mortal
Orchestra’s second record find a hitherto rich, unexplored territory between
vocals above the music bands like Grizzly Bear and genuine funkiness studio
projects like Kindness. The result is
music that drills into your consciousness and stays there. It is a sound tapestry woven by a band whose
first album couldn’t have predicted such growth. This is swiftly turning into
the best record I’ve heard this year. A
great record.
