Mazes – ORE AND MINERALS

Mazes sound is the structured intensity of Wire with quite a bit of pop sweetener added.  The songs are tight but the vaguely twee sounding vocals stop it from becoming too tense.  Throw in the odd piano and you have a record that while at first may seem the usually 80’s influenced  dross, instead reveals different sides of the music as you continue. 

Deathfix – DEATHFIX

Deathfix is collaboration between Fugazi’s Brendan Canty and singer/songwriter Rich Morel.  They produce songs that start off in the manner of Fugazi but end up more in a power pop direction with big choruses and even a few middle 8’s. The song Hospital in particular findS common ground between math rock and Big Star.
