LAST THOUGHTS ABOUT THE 2012 US ELECTION

Random thoughts on the 2012 election

1.) In the end, the results were what was widely predicted before the first debate – Obama lost North Carolina and Indiana but won all the other states he won in 2008.

2.) Dick Morris??? Who watches that guy???  I’ve never seen him predict any political race correctly.  I figure Fox News keeps him around for laughs.

3.) The Republican Party’s relationship with the Tea Party is like the relationship between an abused wife and her abuser.  Just like Delaware, Colorado, and Nevada in 2010, the Tea Party cost the Republican Party senate seats in Indiana and Missouri this time around not to mention a few house seats and perhaps the presidential race too.  As long as the Tea Party’s around with their crazy extremist beliefs and rhetoric and they can upend more moderate Republicans in primaries or force them to take positions they aren’t comfortable with, the Democrats will have a chance in all races.

4.) The most immediate right wing talking point was Obama has no mandate.  332-206 – that’s an ass kicking and certainly is a mandate....Much more than George W Bush ever had.

5.) Colorado and Washington legalized marijuana for personal use.  I hope this is the start of a trend.  Ditto with Maine, Maryland, and Washington recognizing gay marriage.

6.) I personally hope with the pressure off to run for re-election, Obama will let his freak flag fly.  He will hopefully be more assertive and find his inner progressive and push for fairer policies both domestically and internationally.  I didn’t support him this time around(was for the Green Party) but I hope for the best.  All I can say is Obama has been a disappointment but I’m really happy Mitt Romney is not president....In retrospect he was an extraordinarily weak candidate with huge baggage.  Nominating someone with his background after how the big banks, mortgage companies, oligarchs etc. screwed everyone over in 2008 would have been like nominating an Muslim fundamentalist for president after 09/11 in 2004.
